One of the wonderful things about the music of the '70s was that we were blessed with some phenomenal male artists who made some fantastic music with their voices and a guitar.

None was greater than James Taylor and it is easy to argue that he was perhaps the greatest of these.

I heard James Taylor as I was growing up, as a youth listening to the radio. And I knew many of the songs. They were familiar to me.

However, it was really in the '80s that I began to fully appreciate just how awesome his music and his songs were. That's natural, I suppose, as his music really required some maturity to truly appreciate them.

That said, one of his songs made its mark on me when I was still in my youth and my love for it only grew as I got older. That song was "Shower The People".

It was one of the few songs "pop" songs that my father liked and he really liked it. He loved its musical qualities and he just loved the simple but meaningful lyrics.

And that rubbed off on me. I held onto it and as I got older, I began to understand the wisdom in a song that was simple perfection.

The world would be such a better place if people simply showered the people they loved with love.
