"He's Me Pal" was composed by Vincent Bryan with lyrics by Gus Edwards in 1905. The song was performed by Meryl Streep in the film Ironweed (1987, directed by Héctor Babenco), which was based on William Kennedy's Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name.

Kennedy also wrote the screenplay for Ironweed, which was filmed in and around Albany and Troy, NY.
