Joe Wong is a Milwaukee-born, Los Angeles-based musician whose unfiltered creative vision is on display on his new album, Nite Creatures. Having made a name for himself as composer for Netflix sensations, Russian Doll, The Midnight Gospel, and Master of None, Wong has just released his deeply personal debut record that was written between 2010 and 2019. Those dates correspond to his father’s stroke and death, and as Wong says, Nite Creatures is “basically about losing someone slowly.” The result is an album that--in the cinematic detail of one of Wong’s film scores, complete with a 24-piece orchestra--explores the intersection of acceptance, loss, melancholy, and joyful surrender. We’re thrilled to have this multi-talented “polyrhythmic polymath” for this episode of BMI’s Jam sessions.
