"What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)" written by Johnny Bristol, Harvey Fuqua, and Vernon Bullock, was recorded by tenor saxophonist and vocalist, Jr. Walker and his group, The All Stars, as part of the album, Home Cookin' released by Soul Records a subsdiary of Motown, on January 1, 1969. A Motown quality control meeting rejected it for single release, but radio station DJs made the track popular, resulting in Motown releasing it as a single on April 25, 1969. The song reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, No 4 on the.Billboard Hot 100 chart, & No 5 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart. It was also included in the compilation album, Jr. Walker And The All Stars Greatest Hits, also released in 1969. Both albums are available on CD on the Motown label. Personnel on the track include Junior Walker on tenor sax & lead vocal, Johnny Bristol on harmony vocal, The Andantes on backing vocals, & instrumentation by The All-Stars with members of The Funk Brothers and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
