We are also so proud of how far Kawailehua has come. Weʻve known of her beautiful leo for some years now, yet she was often shy and hesitant to sing. Lately she has shown amazing resilience and positivity during very trying personal circumstances. Aloha NUI mākou iā ʻoe e Kawailehua!

Representing Ke Kula ‘o Samuel M Kamakau, Kawailehua shared why she chose this mele:

”Koho au i kēia mele no ka mea ‘o ia ka wikiō Mana Maoli mua a’u i nānā ai i ka makahiki 2016. Piha ku’u na’au me ke aloha i ka lohe ‘ana i kēia mele. Mahalo au i nā kumu Mana Maoli i ko lākou paepae ‘ana ia’u i ka’u hīmeni ‘ana. Hīmeni au i kēia mele no ko’u makuahine no kona kāko’o ‘ana mai ia’u.”

“I chose this song because (Hawaiʻi Aloha) is the first Mana Maoli video that I saw in the year 2016. My heart is filled with love when I hear this song. I am thankful to all of the Mana Maoli kumu for encouraging me to sing. I dedicate this song to my mother for her support for me.”
