Description
Kevin Burke has been called Ireland's most lyrical fiddler. This, his landmark solo album, along with his association with The Bothy Band and Patrick Street, shows why he is a musician of rare and immense talent. Kevin has always been known for his highly individual style-vibrant, expressive, relaxed, and, at times, humorous. He is joined on this classic album by Paul Brady, Donal Lunny and Jackie Daly among others.
Burke released this solo debut in 1978 while he was still a member of the Bothy Band. Thus when the Bothies split up for good the following year, the shock of the blow was lessened by the knowledge that former members of the band would still make music like this. Burke's unassailable technique and musicality allowed him to introduce modern arrangements and recording techniques to the conservative Irish fiddle world with barely a murmur of protest. Burke's fiddling on If the Cap Fits continues to inspire musicians. Indeed, his versions of dance tunes have become standards in Irish sessions around the world. --Michael Simmons
