Description
Koke’e played in Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar. (Recorded August 2021)
This was a song composed by the late Dennis Kamakahi and tells of Koke’e, an area on the Island of Kauai. My favorite version of the song is by the group Maunalua, so I tried to model my instrumentals after them. This song has been played by many other musicians including Ledward Kaapana, Robert Cazimero, Blayne Asing, Pure Heart, and Mark Yamanaka.
It took me some time to figure out the instrumentals for the song, but I finally got them. I learned through a combination of listening and watching footage of Bobby Moderow and Maunalua performing live. However, Bobby doesn’t always play it the same way when he’s performing, so it was a little tricky.
The pictures in the video are definitely not from Koke’e.. or even Kauai. But I thought they were just some nice images I had on my phone.
Tuning is in Taropatch
