Jindo Arirang is a folk song mainly sung in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do. On October 30, 2001, it was designated as the first local cultural heritage (intangible heritage) of Jindo-gun.
The date of creation is unclear and is estimated to be from the end of the 19th century to the early 20th century. At this time, confusion in values emerged between the Confucian traditional culture and the new culture of enlightenment, and dissatisfaction with the reality exhausted by foreign invasion was heightened.In the editorial, enlightened relics such as meteor flags, yunseon, cars, and bicycles appear, and the shaking world is satirized in them.
Jindo Arirang penetrates the lives of island villagers. Therefore, both joy and sadness are incorporated into Arirang's compositional melody. I sang Arirang to forget sadness when I was sad and to share joy when I was happy. Arirang, which has been handed down from mouth to mouth since her mother's mother, has settled in the hearts of the island villagers. The characteristic of Jindo Arirang is that it contains excitement in a sad melody. That's the lyrics that sing a hard life but never lose hope for tomorrow
진도아리랑은 전라남도 진도군을 중심으로 그 일대에서 주로 불리는 민요이다. 2001년 10월 30일 진도군의 향토문화유산(무형유산) 제1호로 지정되었다.
창작연대는 확실하지 않으며 대략 19세기 말에서 20세기 초로 추정된다. 이 때는 유교적 전통문화와 개화문명이라는 새로운 문화 사이에서 가치관의 혼란이 나타나고, 외세의 침탈로 피폐해진 현실에 대한 불만이 고조되던 시대였다.사설 중에는 유성기·윤선·자동차·자전거 등의 개화문물이 나타나고, 그 속에서 흔들리는 세태가 풍자되어 있다.
진도아리랑은 섬마을 사람들의 삶을 관통한다. 때문에 기쁨도 슬픔도 아리랑의 구성진 가락에 녹아 있다. 슬플 때는 슬픔을 잊기 위해, 기쁠 때는 기쁨을 나누기 위해 아리랑을 불렀다. 어머니의 어머니, 그 어머니의 어머니 때부터 입에서 입으로 전해온 아리랑은 그렇게 섬마을 사람들의 가슴속에 자리 잡았다. 진도아리랑의 특징은 구슬픈 가락에 흥겨움이 담겨 있다는 것이다. 고된 삶을 노래하면서도 내일의 희망을 잃지 않는 가사가 그렇다
