Description
• The history of the Korean Traditional Instrument 'Geomungo' can be traced back to the Goguryeo Kingdom (37 BCE - 668 CE). Ever since that era, it has taken a crucial role in Korean Traditional Music and was considerably loved by a myriad of Korean Kings and Royalty.
In the late 19th century, a professional Geomungo player, Baek Nakjun, created Geomungo Sanjo. This song was handed down to Baek's disciple, Bak Seokgi, in the early 1930s and then once again passed down to the next disciple, Han Gabdeuk, in the late 1930s. Han composed his new sanjo based on Baek's sanjo in the 1950s, which is named Han Gabdeuk School Geomungo Sanjo. It was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 16 in South Korea.
Han Gabdeuck School Geomungo Sanjo consists of five parts: Jinyangjo - Jungmori - Eotmori - Jungjungmori - Jajinmori, which are arranged by tempo speed. Today, all parts will be played in respective order.
I sincerely hope you immerse yourself in the great history of Geonumgo through this recital.
Please enjoy.
