Today I'm sharing with you my orchestral arrangement of “Korobeiniki”, a beloved Russian folk tune with a fascinating history and a timeless love story. 💕 The song is based on the lyrics of Nikolay Nekrasov's poem “Korobeiniki”, which tells the tale of a peddler, Ivan, and a young woman, Katya. The story unfolds as the peddler woos Katya, offering her a turquoise ring and proposing marriage, only to have their love story take a bitter turn. This folk melody later gained international fame as the theme of the iconic video game Tetris, forever intertwining it with gaming history. 🎮

This cover re-imagines “Korobeiniki” with sweeping strings, delicate flutes, powerful brass, dramatic percussion, and a heartfelt solo cello, capturing the romance, passion, and heartache of the original story. In the accompanying video, I tried to bring the tale to life through AI-generated images showing paintings in the style of Baroque and Renaissance masters like Rubens and Titian, which will hopefully immerse you in a visually stunning world of art and storytelling. 🖼️✨ From the peddler’s journey to Katya’s heartfelt decision, every frame is infused with rich detail and emotion. While the original song hints at a bittersweet ending, I’ve chosen to depict a happier conclusion, celebrating their marriage and the joy of starting a family and welcoming a baby. 👶💍

Fun fact - while “Korobeiniki” is widely recognized today, the melody’s origins date back to the bazaars of 19th-century Russia, where peddlers sang it to attract customers. The lyrics carry deeper themes of love, trust, and fate, making it a song that resonates across generations. 🌿💍
