Originally written for Vihuela. Six course Vihuela F# Tuning from thickest to thinest strings:

F# (G is standard guitar tuning)

Then put a capo on the third fret for a more historically accurate pitch range. Basically you have to play the F# string a fret higher than normal since it is not G. Notice at 4:17 it takes 4 fingers to play a C Major shaped chord.

Luis de Narváez (fl. 1526–49) was a Spanish composer and vihuelist. Narváez was very highly regarded during his lifetime, particularly for his vihuela playing; he was reported to be able to improvise four parts over another four at sight. His son Andrés also became an accomplished vihuelist.
