Description
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress born on March 28, 1986, in New York City. Known for her unconventional style, powerful voice, and reinvention, Gaga rose to fame in the late 2000s and quickly became one of the most influential pop artists in the world. She began playing piano at age four and performed in school plays and open mic nights as a teenager. After briefly studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she dropped out to pursue music. She initially wrote songs for other artists before signing with Interscope Records and Akon’s KonLive label. Her debut album, The Fame (2008), was a massive success, producing global hits like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” It was followed by the The Fame Monster (2009), an EP featuring songs such as “Bad Romance,” “Telephone,” and “Alejandro,” which further cemented her status as a pop icon. Her second full-length album, Born This Way (2011), embraced themes of self-expression, religion, and LGBTQ+ identity, and the title track became an anthem for acceptance. She continued to evolve artistically with the EDM-heavy Artpop (2013), the jazz collaboration Cheek to Cheek (2014) with Tony Bennett, and the softer, country-inspired Joanne (2016), which was named after her late aunt. In 2020, she released Chromatica, a return to her dance-pop roots, addressing personal healing and mental health, with chart-topping singles like “Rain on Me” featuring Ariana Grande. In addition to music, Lady Gaga has made a significant impact in acting. She won a Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel and earned critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Shallow” in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, in which she starred alongside Bradley Cooper. She later played Patrizia Reggiani in House of Gucci (2021), earning further praise. Beyond entertainment, Gaga is a passionate philanthropist and activist. In 2012, she co-founded the Born This Way Foundation with her mother to support youth mental health, anti-bullying initiatives, and inclusivity. She has consistently advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, mental health awareness, and survivors of trauma. Her artistry blends performance art, avant-garde fashion, and pop culture references, and she cites influences like David Bowie, Madonna, and Queen. Gaga is recognized for pushing boundaries and redefining the role of women in pop. Over the course of her career, she has won numerous awards, including 13 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes, and an Academy Award, and has sold over 125 million records worldwide. Lady Gaga’s legacy lies not only in her music and acting but also in her fearless individuality, emotional vulnerability, and commitment to empowering others.
