Upon researching this Artist’s BIO, I was truly sorry to hear that he went to the heavens on Feb 19, 2017 [May he rest in peace]. Known as the “guitarist of fusion”, music critics say Larry Coryell’s involvement with guitar jazz started as far back as the 60s and he was the “first musician to bring a rock sound and sensibility to jazz music”. His initial exposure came through his association with vibraphonist Gary Burton’s quartet, referred to by many as the first jazz rock band. Larry Coryell gave credit for his music inspiration to Chuck Berry and country musician Chet Atkins. He’s worked with both rock and jazz musicians such as Charles Mingus and Sonny Rollins as well as other musicians residing abroad. In 1969, he released the self-titled album “Larry Coryell”, which led to the release of many successful albums and other music compilations over the years. In 1972, Larry Coryell formed/worked with the fusion band the Eleventh House until they disbanded in 1975. From then on, Larry continued to record music jumping genre’s between jazz, jazz rock, electric and acoustic guitar music. The Inner City Blues EP was initially released in the 90s and then re-released in Europe and the U.S in later years.
