Description
Despite having released 18 albums, starred in her own shows at Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall, won plaudits for her performance in 'Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical', and performed in sell out concerts, Linda Eder remains surprisingly unknown by many. She is an artist that I unhesitatingly regard as a song stylist, and one who is enthusiastically appreciated by those who, having taken time out to listen to her music, recognise her extraordinary vocal ability.
Her impressive array of albums stretches from 'Vienna' in 1989 to 'If You See Me', published this year. It includes her 2003 collection, 'Storybook', on which is featured "Bridge Over Troubled Water". From her acapella opening, to rousing climax, Linda presents a pitch perfect performance in which the top notes are scaled with an ease that emphasises the emotion she feels. She is on record as stating that Judy Garland is her greatest influence, and recorded an entire album in tribute to her, as well as including further songs associated with Judy on other albums. She is also a huge admirer of Barbra Streisand, whose voice control she can certainly match. Both elements are present on this performance.
