Description
Track 1 from her self-titled third album released in 1972 copyright Capitol Records. It was recorded at United Western Recorders and The Troubadour nightclub in Hollywood and Muscle Shoals Sound studios in Sheffield, Alabama. It’s considered one of the earliest examples of “country rock.” Before recording the album Linda hired Glenn Frey to put together a touring band for her. The new band with Frey on guitar and background vocals and Don Henley on drums and background vocals was featured on six of the ten tracks on the album including three that were recorded live at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. It received above average reviews but its poor sales resulted in Linda’s decision to leave Capitol Records after releasing her first three albums with them. She would sign with Asylum Records and release “Don’t Cry Now” in 1973 but she was still obligated to record another album for Capitol to fulfill her contract. The album “Heart Like a Wheel” released in 1974 on Capitol would be her breakout album. After this album was completed, Glenn Frey went on to form the Eagles with Henley and session musicians Bernie Leadon on lead guitar and Randy Meisner on bass. Written by Jackson Browne and produced by John Boylan & Al Coury. Oh, people look around you, the signs are everywhere
You left him for somebody other than you to be the one to care
You're lost inside your houses, there's no time to find you now
Whoa, your walls are burnin' and your towers are turnin'
I gotta leave you here and try to get down to the sea somehow
(Rock me on the water)
Sister, won't you (soothe my fevered brow)
Oh-oh-oh (rock me on the water)
I'll get down to the sea somehow
The road is filled with homeless souls, every woman, child and man
Who have no idea where they will go but they'll help you if they can
Now everyone must have some thought that's gonna pull them through somehow
Whoa, the fires are ragin' hotter and hotter
But the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
(Rock me on the water)
Sister won't you (soothe my fevered brow)
Oh-oh-oh (rock me on the water)
I'll get down to the sea somehow
Oh, people look among you, it's there your hope must lie
There's a seabird above you gliding in one place like Jesus in the sky
We all must do the best we can and then hang onto that gospel cloud
When my life is over gonna stand for the father
But the sisters of the sun are gonna rock me on the water now
(Rock me on the water)
Sister won't you (soothe my fevered brow)
Oh-oh-oh (rock me on the water)
And maybe I'll remember, maybe I'll remember how
Rock me on the water
The wind is with me now
Oh-oh-oh rock me on the water
I'll get down to the sea somehow
I gotta get down to the sea somehow
