I've been thinking these past weeks (including my birthday on Oct 6th and National Coming Out Day on the 11th) about what makes me feel unique, and how to appreciate & nurture that feeling every single day. I've had some down days recently, and I know a few friends who too have been going through really difficult times. This song is for them and anyone else who could use a reminder how special and valued they are in this world.

I had fun taking one of Lizzo's best & most powerful new songs "Special", giving it a lively and celebratory makeover, and on the way adding some funky jazz flute & even audio from the James Madison crystal flute tucked in there too. The chords & melody were inspired by another jazz flautist Althea Rene who is also just brilliant & wonderful.

Keep it fun & keep it true to you - that's the motto I follow these days making music.
