Description

When I first started to sing in groups that were smaller than entire school singing together in chorus, it was in a chamber choir of about sixteen called "Madrigals" at the Waring School. Our director was my piano teacher, which is how I probably got roped into it in the first place (believe it or don't, I was quite a reluctant singer before about 20!) and she loved King's Singers arrangements. She retired from conducting the group, though not from the school, this past spring after 35 years! These arrangements, though glorious, tend to be a little difficult for a smaller group because the arrangements are for two countertenors, tenor, two baritones, and bass. This makes the soprano part a little low, and also means that there are frequent divisions in the tenor and bass lines, so the men really had to work on learning their parts. But I loved them then as I do now, and for one male vocalist with a wide range, they're really very nice too. I especially like the folk songs and the popular music like Billy Joel and The Beatles presented in a very different light.
