Description
Adapted from Discogs bio:
Louis Jordan's Tympany Five were active from the 1930s until the '70s. At their 1940s peak they were the most popular R&B band. The Tympany Five ultimately scored eighteen No. 1 hits, making them the third most successful R&B singles artist in Billboard chart history.
Just after WWII, Louis Jordan launched a revolutionary sound: not Blues or Jazz but the “Jump Blues” which evolved into Rhythm & Blues. His jumping shuffle rhythms were copied by many in the 1940s.
