Today we continue reading chapters 3-7 of Deuteronomy, the fifth book of the Bible and final book of the Torah (Pentateuch). After spending the past 38 years in the wilderness, and now about to enter the Promised Land, Moses reminds the new generation of the children of Israel how YHVH had given them and their fathers His commandments and laws at Mt. Sinai 38 years earlier. Moses now teaches them these lessons, which can be summarized as “the Blessings of Obedience, and the curses of disobedience.” Today as we read and sing Deuteronomy 3.23-7.11, we are reminded of several key passages including “Shema Israel (“Hear Israel”) and the Ten Commandments.
