Description

63-year old Maggie Bell singing 'Wishing Well' live at Renfrew Ferry, Glasgow [June 2008]: -

"Throw down your hat, kick off your shoes
I know you ain't goin' anywhere
Run 'round the town singin' your blues
I know you ain't goin' anywhere.

You've always been a good friend of mine,
But you're always sayin' "Farewell"
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well.

Throw down your gun, you might shoot yourself...
Or is that what you're tryin' to do?
Put up a fight you believe to be right
And someday the sun will shine through.

You've always got something to hide
Something you just can't tell
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well.

And I know what you're wishing for
Love in a peaceful world
Love in a peaceful world
Love in a peaceful world
Love in a peaceful world

You've always been a good friend of mine,
But you're always sayin' "Farewell"
And the only time that you're satisfied
Is with your feet in the wishing well."

This is from the British Blues Quintet gig - a British blues band formed in London in 2006 by five veteran UK blues musicians; Zoot Money (keyboards and vocals), Colin Allen (drums), MAGGIE BELL (vocals), Colin Hodgkinson (bass and vocals) and Miller Anderson (guitar and vocals).

Maggie sang (as did Magdeline Bell) back-up vocals on Rod Stewart's 'Every Picture Tells a Story' the album that made him a solo star. In an interview Maggie recalled "Rod came round to Alex Harvey's house to pick me up driving a yellow Lamborghini. When I recorded my vocal for EPTAS, I was in and out of the studio in 90 minutes. I got paid 350pounds for the session. Rod is the only person I know who could peel an orange in his pocket with onw hand!"
Maggie also recorded the theme songs for TV drama Hazell (1978) and taggart (1983). She also appeared in an episode of Taggart with Mark McManus - playing a character called Effie Lambie. In 1981 she had a hit that reached no.11 with B.A. Robertson called 'Hold Me'.

Maggie, who was brought up at 47 Hopehill Road, Maryhill, recalls: - "Opening for Led Zeppelin in Madison Square Garden in New York was a career highlight."
