This animated performance features my own reading of a darkly humorous and melancholic Swedish poem, set to the gentle strumming of guitar.

The poem ("Jag ska ju ändå dö") explores the impermanence of life, the absurdity of everyday routines, and the bittersweet acceptance of our shared fate – all wrapped in Scandinavian wit.

I don’t brush my teeth –
I’ll just eat again.
I don’t make my bed –
I’ll sleep in it later.
I don’t wash my clothes –
they’ll soon be dirty again.
I never start cleaning –
such things are never done.

I never fall in love –
it only ends in goodbye.
I never buy sour milk –
it always goes bad.
I don’t tie my shoes –
I’ll take them off anyway.
I don’t buy new shoes –
they’ll just give me blisters.

I walk through life,
seeing right through it all.
I never lose my head –
I keep it cold and clear.
For nothing is worth anything
when nothing ever lasts.
All is vanity –
you must understand.

I never take vacations –
the work will still be there.
I buy nothing –
saving every coin.
I never turn on the light –
the sun will rise again.
I’m never disappointed –
I never dare to hope.

I drift through life
in unbearable boredom.
The world is clumsily made,
lacking all finesse.
No, nothing has value
when it all ends the same.
All flesh is hay,
and flowers always die.

But I never cry –
tears always dry.
And if I ever laugh,
it’s hollow and dry.
I make no friends –
friends always leave.
I never start living –
for I’m going to die anyway.
