I had a feeling we were going to get a new Meshuggah song on Friday, and we did! Once it came out, I started working on a cover and here we are.
I really like what Meshuggah is doing right now, this song is so cool! I love how a lot of the time, riffs don't get truncated by the end of a hypermeasure. For example: when the cymbals crash and the ambient guitars come in at the intro, the riff keeps going. A similar thing happens after the chorus, where the second verse "starts," but it's still the intro/chorus riff. Idk, I just really like how Meshuggah is able to still keep their formula fresh after all these years. I'm incredibly stoked for the new album.
Quick note about some production stuff:
I used GGD Invasion for the drums, but I layered it with two snares and a kick from SSD. I really like how massive I was able to make the snare sound.
I used Archetype: Gojira for the rhythm guitars, 3rd amp, 1st cab, no overdrive pedal. Took out some low mids after the plugin with an EQ rather than using an overdrive.
I used some of the fuzz pedals in Logic to get my bass tone. The bass was tuned to F standard, octave below the guitars, so it was very muddy. In the mix I think it sounds great though!
