Description

This is an old traditional ballad about when Norway/Denmark was at war with Sweden in the early 1600's, known as the Kalmar war. Sweeden hired a Scottish army led by a man called George Zinklar. He arrived the Norwegian cost in ships with 1400 soliders, just to be slaughtered by Norwegian farmers in a bloody fight with axes. Only 14 of Mr. Zinklars men survived. They were sent to prison in Denmark. We are all friends again now:)

Edvard Storm wrote the lyrics to this ballad. I've only used 9 of the 18 verses in my version. The vocals are sung by the talented Line Kaupang.

The first of the two paintings from this legendary battle is by Adolph Tidemand and Morten Muller, and the second is made by Georg Nielsen Strømdal.
