This is a timeless piece of music dating back to the 18th century and probably the first Chinese song that became well-known in the west when diplomat John Barrow brought it back to Europe in 1804
There are many versions of this song and the one I particularly like is by Feng Fei Fei whose crystal clear and harmonious voice is a perfect fit
In the 1920s, Puccini included this tune in his famous opera Turandot which brought further fame to it in the west. This song is so well known that most people are familiar with its tune and it is sometimes referred to as the second anthem of China!
