Description
"Morning Has Broken" was written by the English author Eleanor Farjeon in 1931.
The tune is Bunessan, a Gaelic folk tune first published (melody only) in Lachlan Macbean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael in 1888. It was chosen by Mary MacDonald for her lyrics to 'Child in the Manger'. It is named after Mary Macdonald's birthplace on the Isle of Mull, Scotland.
This recording, by Cat Stevens (later Yusuf Islam) in 1971, was a huge success.
