“Eine kleine Nachtmusik” (A little serenade) composed by Mozart.

The serenade “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” was composed by Mozart in 1787 for a chamber ensemble and is often played by a string quartet. The German title “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” is often translated to “A little night music”, although the translation of “A little serenade” would be more accurate.

“Eine kleine Nachtmusik” is composed for an ensemble of two violins, viola and a cello with an optional double bass. Often the serenade is performed by a string quartet. The most famous movement of “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” is the 1st movement called Allegro. Everybody recognizes the opening theme after a few notes, so “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” is often taken as a perfect example of classical music.
