This is one of the darkest songs I’ve ever written.

ISOMETRICA analyzes several specific sources of isolation and trauma that I’ve experienced through a lot of my life, but most notably during my middle school years. The idea is that every couple of stanzas, I’m singing to — or about — a completely different person or experience in my life, as a sort of viscerally direct emotional catharsis. The name is essentially a play on the word “Isometric”, implying that this song is a space of analyzing several different angles of one central concept.

Analogously, I imagined Chrysalis being equally isolated and misunderstood, with Celestia personifying all of those traumas I had come to know. At the point of all these emotional terrors, she would come to wonder “you really thought a changeling could change?”

The things discussed in this song range from social isolation, to relentless middle school bullying, to falling out of otherwise fundamental & developmental relationships. But the underlying theme is how all of these things would eventually lead to one day in 2011, where I was so sure I was going to take my life. At the end of the song, there are several clips that play from recordings I took during those years of my life, in an attempt to remember the things that still made me smile despite everything else. And that’s what this song is about. Perseverance.
