Music Director Emeritus for Life Riccardo Muti and members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra discuss the meaning and significance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 — described as the composer’s “song of humanity” by CSO trumpet John Hagstrom. Performance footage was recorded on September 18, 2014, and features Muti, the CSO, the Chicago Symphony Chorus (prepared by former Chorus Director Duain Wolfe), and vocal soloists soprano Camilla Nylund, mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova, tenor Matthew Polenzani and bass-baritone Eric Owens.
