It was my first time ever seeing the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in person — and honestly, nothing could have prepared me for this magical moment.

It’s late at night in Edinburgh, just before 11 p.m. The cobbled streets outside Edinburgh Castle are quiet… until, from the shadows, figures in stunning, otherworldly costumes begin to appear. They move slowly, almost like spirits, in time with soft, haunting drumbeats.

One by one, they pass by, their presence both beautiful and surreal — until they disappear back into the night.

And then, from the distance, comes the unmistakable, soul-stirring sound of bagpipes. A massed band of pipes and drums appears, dressed in full regalia, marching proudly with a power that takes your breath away.

Standing there, I felt like I had stepped into a dream — a real-life fairytale unfolding right in front of me.
