One Nation senators have faced criticism for turning their backs during the parliament's Acknowledgement of Country, with Indigenous Affairs Minister Malarndirri McCarthy calling the act "incredibly childish" and "hurtful". She said the One Nation senators had made a "deliberate decision to disrespect First Nations Australians".

However, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson defended the action, saying she was representing people who voted against the Voice referendum and are "fed up" with the ceremony.
