This song has always been a firm favourite of mine, and not only just for the song, it is the very beautiful and underrated Louise Brooks in the movie scenes that sold this even more so. So much that I decided a remake of the video was in order using a slightly different remix of the song, and a remix of that remix as it is. Now the movie tells a very dark story of a young girl/woman. A woman desired by men, needing to be desired by men, and being commited to death by the courts for the murder of her husband, of which she is not guilty, so with the help of her friends, she flees the court, and manages to get herself to London, only to be the inevitable victim of a man she trusted, and fell in love with. Her reward for this, to be murdered herself. The movie was banned in Germany by Hitler, due to its promiscuity and one scene where you see her dancing with a woman, in a time when homosexuality was illegal in most countries in the world, and a very taboo subject, so to have a clearly lesbian character in the movie sealed its fate in Hitlers eyes as the would-be porn of today, "degenerate art" he called it! I know Silent movies might not be to your taste, but it is still worthy of a look, I would never have thought that I could have sat and watched a 2 hour long silent movie, how wrong I was.......

The story is not much different from Louise's own life, she was a very young silent movie star, popular with the studio's in the US, earning lots of money, Paramount studios were trying to use the new technology of sound movies to pressurise her into staying with them after she was promised a raise that she never received, so left for Germany to make movies for G.W.Pabst. A move that initially got her on the radar by the studios as a rebel, but that was not her downfall entirely, when she made all of the movies for Pabst, she returned from Germany and refused to do the sound retakes for a movie that she appeared in, and that got her onto an unofficial blacklist for studios, but 30 years later it would be the best move that she had made of her career, essentially it made her immortal in the silent movie era, securing her legendary status in this golden era of movies.

There is a whole lot more about her on this wiki, take time to read it, it is fascinating.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louise_Brooks

This woman single-handedly stylised the black helmet bob hair style, to think that one hair style from 1928 is still extremely popular today almost 90 years on.
