My name is Hitomi Watase. I perform jazz live shows in Tokyo, and recently I’ve been singing classic Shōwa-era pop songs with jazz arrangements. These nostalgic songs are well-received at live performances, and I thought they could also be a great way for international listeners to discover Japanese music.
I’d be delighted if this sparks your interest!
This time, I’ve translated the Shōwa-era pop song "Osaka Bay Blues", composed by Tetsuji Hayashi, into English. I’m presenting it with a slightly different arrangement from the original. The original song is so wonderful that it truly shines in any style! I hope you’ll give it a listen.
The lyrics by Kan Chin-Fa are also warm and touching , so I’ve sung it in Japanese as well. For those who remember this song from back in the day, I think it will bring a warm sense of nostalgia.

渡瀬ひとみと申します。都内でジャズライヴをやっているのですが、ここ最近の活動として、昔の昭和歌謡をジャズアレンジで歌っています。ライヴで歌うと結構喜ばれるのと、海外の方にも日本の歌を知ってもらうきっかけになるかなと思いました。

今回は、林哲司氏作曲の昭和ポップス曲、「悲しい色やね」の英訳を致しました。オリジナルとはちょっと違うアレンジでご紹介しようと思いました。元の曲が素晴らしいので、どんなアレンジでも活きますね！良かったら聴いてください。作詞をされた康珍化氏の歌詞も素晴らしいので、日本語でも歌いました。この時代にこの曲を聴いていらした方にとって懐かしいかと思います。
