Originally released in 1970 as the lead single from the album Paranoid, the song quickly became one of the most iconic heavy metal tracks of all time. Written under pressure and completed in just minutes, it captured the urgency and power of a new sound that would define the metal genre.

My Dad’s Radio is a collective of musicians who come together to record all our parents’ favorite songs—the soundtrack of our youth. Most of the musicians in each video haven’t played together before, and we have just one hour to set up and rehearse before capturing a live studio performance—no backing tracks, no overdubs.
Paranoid was released in August 1970 as the first single from Black Sabbath’s second album, Paranoid. The band wrote the track quickly in the studio as a last-minute addition, but it went on to become one of their most defining songs. Its driving riff, thunderous rhythm, and raw lyrics helped shape the identity of heavy metal. The song reached No. 4 on the UK charts and has since become one of the most recognizable metal anthems of all time. “Paranoid” was also the final song performed at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell concert in 2025—cementing its place in music history.
