Description
I'm on twitter @karldeeter
I heard this the other night on the miriam o'callaghan show and it blew me away, realised i actually met the man once in the cobblestone pub in town at a session when i saw his face on the show. anyway, he does a fingerstyle version which i would likely suck at so i re-arranged it - rate it don't hate it! lol. it's nowhere near as powerful as the original but that's what buying the CD is for! john spillane is a really great songwriter check out his site, better yet, check him out, go to one of his gigs.
lyrics to passage west by john spillane:
I met my love in passage west
the sun was sinking dawn to west
the river to the stars confessed
tis' a dark haired woman i love best
we wondered down by the chapel square
and there was magic in the air
and mother nature gently pressed
the burning river to her breast
i offered her a golden ring
my hand my heart and everything
i offered her a sweet love nest
by the flowing banks of passage west
oh love will ya go will ya go
or will ya stay will stay will ya stay
we watched the ferry come and go
we watched the river ebb and flow
the tide breath in the tide breath out
we watched the passage flowers grow
[we sat and watched the sun go down]
the ghostly forms of the hungry years
in sad procession did appear
when hope and sorrow made their way
in their passage west to amerikay
oh love will ya go will ya go
or will ya stay will stay will ya stay
the famine queen stood tall and proud
on either bank the people bowed
from passage west came a fenian yell
rule britannia rule in hell
the grass grows green on the other side
and mighty ships sale out the tide
to far flung harbours across the sea
far away from passage, my love and me
oh love will ya go will ya go
or will ya stay will stay will ya stay
I met my love in passage west
the sun was sinking dawn to west
the river to the stars confessed
tis' a dark haired woman i love best
