Jiangnan, the region to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with its tradition of romantic poetry dating back a thousand years and unique natural scenery, has given birth to a delicate, soft, philosophical style of music of its own. The Picturesque Jiangnan Project for Innovative Performance by Small Scale Chamber Folk Music Band will draw upon the cultural strengths and historical resources of Zhejiang Province to put a contemporary spin on classic domestic and foreign works, both modern and ancient. The project aims to provide a good opportunity for the world to better understand Chinese culture and traditional music through high quality performances. The works performed in the concert are specially selected to showcase the depth of the Chinese musical culture created over thousands of years, including solo and ensemble pieces. Performers are mainly from the Chinese Music Chamber Orchestra of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (ZJCM) and some talented young teachers and students also take part. The band takes traditional Chinese folk music and interprets it in a creative way, creating exciting new musical works and performs successfully on domestic and international stages and TV networks and platforms. Bringing innovation, vitality and momentum to traditional culture and folk music of China in the new era.
