A sad week in the musical cosmos!
A man whose unique work spanned the entire musical world over 70 years like no other. A thoroughbred musician, awarded 27 Grammys, 28 Emmys and the Oscar, a trumpeter by training, whose arrangements and productions influenced the fortunes of, for example, Count Basie, Ray Charles,
Frank Sinatra, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour to Michael Jackson, with the best-selling album of all time, “Thriller”.
Due to his global social connections that had developed over decades, he had become a magnate in the overall cultural context and sometimes also in the political sphere in the USA, whose call the most powerful people listened to and whose favor they wanted to be assured of.
His musical work will remain unparalleled, the facets of his talent unattainable.
The title "Just Once", originally sung by James Ingram, has always been one of my favorite songs. However, I rarely played it.
