Description
Reet, Petite, and Gone is a 1947 American musical race film produced and released by Astor Pictures. It was the first feature film directed by short-subject director William Forest Crouch and stars Louis Jordan and June Richmond. The title of this film was taken from a musical number made famous by Louis Jordan. "Reet, Petite and Gone" is a slang term for an attractive woman. Reet, Petite and Gone marked the final appearance in a feature film of Lorenzo Tucker, widely known as the "black Valentino."
Synopsis:
There isn't so much story here that it gets in the way of the music.
If you're a Louis Jordan fan, this one's for you. This one's all about the music, with three full Louis Jordan swing numbers before the storyline even starts.
In a 67-minute running time you get 14 songs by Louis with his Tympany Five, June Richmond, Mabel Lee, and Bea Griffith.
Storyline:
Old-time musical star Schyler Jarvis, now wealthy, is dying; his last act is a visionary plan for the future happiness of his son, swing bandleader Louis Jarvis, and Honey Carter, daughter of his long-lost love. But crooked lawyer Talbot has a nefarious scheme to get his hands on the Jarvis money... and it doesn't include any happiness for Louis and Honey. Plenty of swing from Louis Jordan's Tympany Five.
