Renato Carosone - born Renato Carusone; January 3, 1920 – May 20, 2001. He was a prominent figure of the Italian music scene during the 1950's and early 1960's. He was also a modern performer of the (Genra) canzone napoletana, a traditional music genre from Naples. Carosone was one of the first post-war Italian artists (the other one being Domenico Modugno) who sold records and toured in the United States without singing in English.
The Rise and Explosion of the Italian American vocalists, in the first half of the 20th century, Many Italian American vocalists initially found success singing traditional Italian songs, including Neapolitan classics. Italian American vocalists also played a crucial role in the rise of American popular music, particularly during the "Golden Age" of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. They navigated the challenges of assimilation and prejudice, often finding acceptance through their musical talents. Many became prominent figures in the growing and developing quickly flourishing jazz and pop scenes. Their success in music contributed to a shift in how Italian Americans were perceived in society.
