Rick Dees was a Memphis DJ who was forbidden to play his own record. Indeed, he was subsequently fired by the station that employed him for even daring to refer to it during one of his shows!
I’ve done my best with the lyrics and am fairly confident apart for one line which I’ve gone for ‘Play a bop mama’ - I can’t can’t quite figure that to be honest.
Is there an unnoticed pun at the end? ‘Thank you duck for getting down’. The ‘Hur hur hur’ that follows suggests that this was indeed ‘pun intended’ but did anyone spot it at the time?
