Imagine a humanoid robot that can keep up with a live band — playing rock, jazz, and metal with human-like precision! 🤯 Researchers from SUPSI, IDSIA, and Politecnico di Milano have developed Robot Drummer, a reinforcement learning-powered humanoid that can perform entire drum tracks accurately and expressively.

Tested in simulation on the Unitree G1 humanoid robot, it mastered songs like In the End (Linkin Park), Take Five (Dave Brubeck), and Living on a Prayer (Bon Jovi). 🎵 Using a rhythmic contact chain, it knows exactly when and where to strike, and learns human-like techniques — crossing arms, switching sticks, planning beats — with over 90% rhythmic precision.
