From the liner notes:
In zydeco, music is a family affair, passed down from parent to child. One of the best-loved performers in the history of the music was also one of its most famous patriarchs: Alton Rubin, aka Rockin' Dopsie Sr., a sharecropper from the town of Carencro, was famous for being a left-hander who played his accordion upside-down. And in true zydeco fashion, Rockin' Dopsie brought his sons into his band as soon as they were old enough to scrape, squeeze and drum.
Following their father's untimely death in 1993 at the age of 61, rubboard player David "Rockin' Dopsie Jr." Rubin, accordionist Anthony Rubin and drummer Alton "Tiger" Rubin kept the family band going. Aided by Rockin' Dopsie Jr.'s energetic stage presence, he spins and does the splits, never missing a beat. The Zydeco Twisters consistently rank as a top band in the New Orleans area, and are favorites around the world.
In this version of Clifton Chenier's signature song "I'm Coming Home," the Rubin brothers play tribute to the deep ties between their father and Chenier. It was Clifton's brother, Cleveland, who taught David Rubin to play the rubboard. Also, Rockin Dopsie Sr. was at Clifton Chenier's side when the ailing Chenier took the stage at the 1987 Zydeco Festival to play a tearful version of this song and, in effect, bid one last farewell to his longtime fans. Since that performance, "I'm Coming Home" has become a
standard at zydeco musicians' funerals.
