This famous Irish tune along with the lyrics are in the public domain, being well over 100 yrs. old. This particular vocal sound recording is copyrighted by Michael C. O'Laughlin, vocalist.
This Irish Sean Nós song, is said to date as far back as the 16th century. It is a lament for a love, as well as a culture and nation lost. As sung by Mike O'Laughlin live at the Irish Roots Cafe. This was an early version, made in preparation for the final album: 'Irish Song, Traditional and Sean Nós', released in 2013.
An ornamented version, bears some controversy today as to the unconventional use of the Irish language in spots. The matter rests with the Sean Nós (old style) singers of yore. Please subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLvlTIEbfxs7SrQmQRG-9QQ
The officially given lyrics for this version of the song are below:
A Róisín ná bíodh brón ort ná cás anois
Tá do phardún ón bPápa ón Róimh uile
Tá na bráithrí thar sáile le cabhrú linn
Ná ceiligí fíon Spáinneach ar mo Róisín Dubh.
Beidh an Éirne na tonna tréana s beidh an spéir ina fuil
Beidh na bráithrí thar sáile le cabhrú linn
Beidh gach gleann sliabh ar fud Éireann is móin ar crith
Lá éigin sula n-éaga mo Róisín Dubh.
