Percy Faith dies on February 9, 1976 in Los Angeles. The orchestra leader was born on April 9, 1908 in Toronto, Canada. In 1940 he moves to the United States. Percy Faith joined the Columbia record company in 1950 as a conductor/arranger. With his orchestra he can be heard on hits by Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney and Johnny Mathis. In 1960, Percy Faith had a number 1 listing with Theme From A Summer Place. This single tops the US charts for nine weeks. His arrangement of Neil Diamond's Crunchy Granola Suite from 1973 became a hit in the Netherlands, partly because Radio Veronica frequently uses this recording as a tune in its programs.
