Description
This is the ninth of my ten African miniatures named UKUVALELISA, commissioned by Laura Faber from Seattle in 2019. This is the optimistic NEW START, the second last piece. Actually, we all hope for a new start when this Covid nightmare is over! Originally these are pieces for recorder solo; here you hear my old friend Ebba-Maria Künning-Zeijl playing the melody, while Frank Hiesler is improvising about it with the "Kolanüsse" (Kola-nuts) at his feet and a percussion instrument called Shékere or Kalabashi. In my view it fits perfect to the recorder!
The performance took place in the Melanchthonkirche in Hamburg on September 20, 2020, one of the first concerts after the end of the lockdown, a wonderfully liberating experience. I wish to thank both artists, Ebba and Frank, for their performance which I really enjoyed.
