After his brief time in Montrose and in the midst of a moderately successful solo career, Sammy Hagar was asked to audition for Van Halen in 1985. He quickly became the favorite and was invited to join the band as lead singer. With Hagar in tow, the band produced a slew of new hits and the records 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, and Balance. After disagreements rose, Hagar left the band in 1996. Hagar still tours in various projects, despite being nearly 78 years old.
