Description
Music, like painting, sculpting and writing, is an ancient art form and of course the Greeks knew their stuff here too. This is the Seikilos Epitaph, the oldest known example of musical notation, found in 'Tralles' (Aydın, Turkey).
The music is on a tombstone (stele), and the dedication upon it reads:
Σεικίλος Εὐτέρπῃ (Seikilos Euterpēi) - 'Seikilos to Euterpe'
