The First time I heard Shirley Bassey's voice (except for Goldfinger) I was at a Gay pub in Greenwich, London. I didn't know who she was. I thought that she sounded a bit like a mish mash of Dinah Washington, Lena Horne, Eartha Kitt and Nancy Wilson. I've been listening to her ever since. At 78 years old, the fabulous Shirley Bassey is still hitting and holding those big powerful notes, and thus vocal consistency over 55 years in the business is just one more reason why she is the best.
