Description
The Eighth Quartet is surely the most well-known string quartet from Shostakovich’s oeuvre, due to the drama presented in a compact way, his own quotations from previous works, and because of the pervasive use of his musical signature D.SCH (Dmitri Schostakowitsch), translated from the German musical notation as the notes of D - E flat - C - B-natural.
This autobiographical quartet was conceived in just three days, between July 12 and 14, 1960. The work was officially dedicated to the victims of war and fascism, but in fact marks a deeper dedication to the composer himself.
Patrycja Blaszak - violin
Tudor Bolnavu - violin
Ana Larisa Iordache - viola
Marek Bienkunski - cello
