I haven't stopped thinking about Superman since I saw it. It gave me optimism that I never expected to feel from any kind of modern superhero movie, one that revitalized what a great comic book film can be, and why characters like Superman are so important in the pop culture. Such a terrific, beautiful, fun film all around. One of the things I was initially unsure about however was them reprising the Williams theme. As great as it was, I felt like we could always get something unique and iconic in it's own right again, like Zimmer's score. Regardless, I feel like Murphy and Fleming did a good job at bringing back the original theme without it feeling derivative and unfitting. One way they did was by changing around the notes slightly to make it punchier and less of a Williams-esque march, which works with the style they're going for. Fleming talked about using guitars as the primary language of Corenswet's Superman, which fits extremely well, especially given how the film discusses punk rock, and attributes Clark's compassion and love as "the real punk rock". And yet, the theme never loses the emotional edge, which I appreciate greatly. It still sounds triumphant, heroic, and perfectly encompassing the Man of Steel. Even all these years later, Williams proves to be a timeless composer, and Fleming/Murphy did well to honor his legacy whilst paving a new path forward.
