Daniele Serra & Orch. Dino Olivieri - Resta con me [Stay With Me] Tango (Mascheroni-Zagari-Marf) Disco Gramofono 1935 (Italian)
NOTE: This Italian tango is an absolute madness for me. So beautiful, so well played by that fabulous orchestra (directed by Dino Olivieri – a composer of “Tornerai”!) and beyond all - sung by that “devil”, great Italian pop singer of the 1920s/30s Daniele Serra. What a LOSS HE WAS for the Italian canzone history, when he allowed himself to be involved into he pro-Mussolini activities thru all the fascist decades in Italy and became a disgrace after 1945, when fascism was defeated and sully forever. Fortunately, besides his fascist hymns he recorded in quite a large number, also remained for us a lot of fantastic recordings of his heavenly voice singing the beautiful Italian tangos, slow-foxes and other lovely canzones. “Resta con me” is a dramatic, poignant song which belongs – in my opinion – to the best renditions of Daniele Serra. I am presenting it here with utmost pleasure and hoping, this wonderful side is accompanied by equally beautiful slideshow of Art Deco posters designed by the best Italian inter-war artists, such as Marcello Dudovich, Mario Puppo, Renzo Bassi, Michahelles, Xanti Schawinsky, Giovanni Patrone and others.
